Alumni Update - Zeke Marshall (Akron)
Akron senior center Zeke Marshall was named Mid-American Conference East Division Men's Basketball Player of the week.Marshall, a McKeesport High School graduate, helped the Zips to a 3-1 record last week, including a 2-1 mark at the 2012 Puerto Rico Tip-Off in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. For the week, he averaged 10.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.8 blocked shots per game while playing 25.5 minutes per game.
In 21 minutes against John Carroll on Monday, Marshall had eight points, seven rebounds and six blocked shots in the 97-53 win.
He recorded a double-double in game one in Puerto Rico on Thursday, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 points while blocking two shots in a 69-65 overtime loss to tournament champion Oklahoma State. Marshall sent the game to overtime with a layup with 1:02 remaining in the second half.
Marshall helped the Zips to back-to-back blowout wins, posting six points, eight boards and five blocked shots against UNC Asheville (82-63) on Friday and 17 points, seven boards and six blocked shots against Penn State (85-60) on Saturday.
For his play in Puerto Rico, Marshall was named to the all-tournament team and set the tournament record for blocked shots over three games (13). He also moved into sole possession of second place on the MAC career blocked shots list (268).
