McKeesport softball team turns things around
McKeesport went from a five-win 2011 season to the 2012 WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs where it will play No. 5 seed Canon-McMillan on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The game will be at California University.
The winner gets No. 4 seed Norwin in a game Thursday at California University. The ultimate goal is to reach the WPIAL finals at California University so McKeesport hopes the trip to the campus on Tuesday is not its last trip there this year.
The Tigers have won four of five games including a 5-2 win over Yough in the regular-season finale. Yough is the reigning WPIAL Class AAA champion.
The catalyst behind McKeesport's strong season was sophomore pitcher Jess Beitler. She fired a two-hitter in a recent shutout win over Woodland Hills and she has one of the strongest bats in the lineup.
