Alumni Update - Shelby Ward (Slippery Rock)

Written by Sports Town on .

Slippery Rock senior Shelby Ward received first-team Division II All-Atlantic Region hnors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Ward, a McGuffey High School graduate, is a repeat first-team selection.

She finished second on the team in scoring with nine goals and three assists and led the team with five game-winning goals, including the winner in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title game against California University of Pennsylvania. Ward also converted her penalty kick, the first attempt taken, in the opening-round shootout win over Edinboro in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

She received second-team All-PSAC honors earlier this fall.

Slippery Rock finished the 2012 season with a 14-6-3 overall record and ranked 14th in Division II. The Rockets won their third PSAC title in program history and advanced to the NCAA Round of 16, the deepest national tournament run the program has made, for the second consecutive year.

Slippery Rock has now posted 17 consecutive winning seasons, all of which include 10 or more wins, a streak that ranks as the eighth-best in Division II history.
