Mars softball team is ready to win now
After winning three games in 2010 and six games in 2011, the Mars softball team wants to see its win total double again.
Coach Michele Goodworth, now in her 14th season at the school, thinks her team is ready to make that jump.
“We have been through the rebuilding years,” Goodworth said. “This team has confidence and the motivation to win.”
The transition may have started last season. The Planets opened the 2011 campaign with eight straight losses before winning six of their final nine games to end the season on a high note.
This year Mars picked up right where it had left off. Through eight games Goodworth’s squad is 4-4 overall and 2-1 in a tough Section 5-AAA. Mars surprised defending PIAA champion Valley 7-0 on the road earlier this year and it knocked off section favorite Highlands 4-3.
