Latrobe, Ellis School stick to their lacrosse plans

Joe Koch's feature on Latrobe and Ellis girls' lacrosse:

"The WPIAL Lacrosse Committee had its hands full when it came to seeding the field for the Division II girls tournament that got underway Tuesday and will conclude with the championship game on May 23 at North Hills' Martorelli Stadium.

That's because The Ellis School and Greater Latrobe High School finished the regular season with identical records of 9-1 against WPIAL Division II, Section I competition. Latrobe, the No. 3 seed, enters the tournament with a 10-5 record. Ellis, the No. 4 seed, is 11-2."

Another Kissell nets success at Latrobe

Ryan Riordan's feature on Latrobe tennis' Kissell:

"Greater Latrobe sophomore Chad Kissell qualified for the PIAA Class AAA tournament in golf last October, then gave the Wildcats senior-laden basketball team valuable minutes off the bench during the winter.

But right now is his favorite sports season.

Kissell won his second consecutive Class AAA Section 1 singles tennis tournament title last week.

"Tennis is my favorite," Kissell said. "I've been playing it basically my whole life.""

Alumni Update: Brad Burkardt (Saint Vincent)

Saint Vincent senior shortstop Brad Burkardt was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week.

Burkardt, a Latrobe High School graduate, became Saint Vincent’s all-time hits leader with a four-hit performance against Penn State-Altoona. He hit safely in all four Saint Vincent games last week, going 9-for-16 (.563) with two hit by pitches, a walk, four doubles, four runs scored, two RBIs and two stolen bases.

Burkhardt passed two-time NAIA All-American Danny Consuegra (183, 2003-06) and currently sits at the top of the school hits list with 188.
