Langley’s Miller reflects on long history with Langley softball

Written by Cara DeCarlo on .

Langley will close its doors permanently on June 13th. For that reason, its coaches and athletes are willing to talk about their Langley sports memories.

Bessy Miller is the head coach of Langley softball. She has been coaching since 1988, but she is also a 1980 Langley graduate. Miller played on Langley’s 1979 City Championship team.

“I fought to keep the doors open,” Miller said. “Every one of my [nine] brothers and sisters graduated from Langley. My broters all played sports – it was something we grew up on.”

An additional interesting fact comes from Miller’s friendship with Langley head baseball coach Leo Rauterkus. The two were neighbors as they grew up and played softball and baseball for Langley.
“We’re like best friends,” said Miller. She noted that she and Rauterkus have “treasured every moment” of softball and baseball with Langley.
