Final season memorable for Langley girls' basketball team

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

Nicholas Tolomeo has the story on the Langley girls' basketball team, which is performing solidly together in spite of the fact that their school will close.

"When Len Ferency took the Langley High School girls' basketball head coaching position four years ago, he started off with just a few girls and a few wins.

The Mustangs went 4-15 in 2008-09, Ferency's first season.

"We started from the ground up," said Ferency, who previously served as the Mustangs' football coach from 2001-06. "We had a few freshmen we knew were pretty nice players and we have added a few pieces along the way."

They have also added victories.

Langley won five games the next season and had 10 wins last season.

This season, Langley started 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the City League before running into a roadblock the first week of the new year, losing to Allderdice, 59-32, and then to Westinghouse, 51-24."
