Knights find a way to lift injured star

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

Knoch won their semifinal game against Franklin Regional, and the Knights will play Montour for the WPIAL Class AAA title this week. Nicholas Tolomeo has more about what the team went through in the process.

"Andrew Rumburg-Goodlin was down and hurting, but his team picked him up and helped him move on.

It happened Friday night in the WPIAL Class AAA semifinal against Franklin Regional when Rumburg-Goodlin was sidelined in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury and his team trailing 7-6.

It also happened on Nov. 1 when Rumburg-Goodlin heard the news that no teenager should ever have to hear, his girlfriend, Knoch cheerleader and classmate Alexis Summers, had been killed in a car accident.

Friends, family and his team helped him through the tough times in early November. After a first-round playoff victory against West Allegheny, just three days after the death of Summers, Rumburg-Goodlin delivered an emotional postgame speech, telling his teammates how thankful he was to be surrounded by them at such a tough time in his life."
