Crawford getting plenty of work for Kiski Area hockey team

Written by Ryan Riordan on .

At first glance, Kiski Area goaltender Ben Crawford’s numbers don’t stand out.

Crawford is currently 1-4 with a 5.80 goals-against average.

But his .874 save percentage is currently sixth in the PIHL Class AA among goaltenders that have played more than one game.

Why is his save percentage so high when his goals-against average is below-average?

Because Crawford has faced 231 shots this season in five games, an average of more than 40 shots per contest. He has faced 39 more shots than any other goaltender in Class AA.

Crawford has kept the Cavaliers in most games, with two of the team’s four losses coming by three goals or less.

Kiski will return to the ice on Nov. 30 when it takes on Erie Cathedral Prep.
