Softball: Kiski Area looks to return to winning ways this week

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

Kiski Area took Class 5A Section 1 by storm in early April with a six-game winning streak that included numerous upsets. The Cavaliers blasted Gateway and Woodland Hills by a combined 24-2 score to start the winning streak. Then they went on the road to Plum and came away with a 3-0 win. During a three-game home stand over four days they garnered attention throughout the section when they defeated Greensburg Salem, 4-2, Penn-Trafford, 7-2, and Armstrong, 2-0.

Things unraveled somewhat after that for Kiski Area when it lost two high-scoring affairs. The first loss was a 11-9 decision against Plum at home and the next was a 12-7 setback at Franklin Regional.

A section title now may be out of reach with Franklin Regional (9-3, 8-1) holding a one-game lead over Penn-Trafford (7-4, 7-2), but the playoffs appear to be in reach as Kiski (7-3, 6-3) is tied with Armstrong (7-5, 6-3) for third place ahead of Plum (6-5, 5-3) and Greensburg Salem (3-7, 3-6).
