Jeannette football team gets long-awaited rematch with Aliquippa

Written by Brad Everett on .

Hearing one specific score has likely served as an article of motivation for Jeannette players and coaches at one time or another since late last year.

Aliquippa 14, Jeannette 7.

That was the outcome of last season’s WPIAL Class AA championship game.

Jeannette (10-1) finally has a chance to extract some revenge when the Jayhawks meet Aliquippa (11-0) in a WPIAL Class AA semifinal Friday at Peters Township.

Jeannette, the No. 4 seed, is coming off a 47-15 win over Beaver in the quarterfinals. The Jayhawks rushed for 272 yards in the game and got five touchdowns on the ground, three by Shavonta Craft. In the first round, Jeannette beat South Allegheny, 40-7.

Top-seed Aliquippa, which is hoping to reach the championship for the fifth season in a row, routed Mount Pleasant, 43-6, in the quarterfinals. The Quips galloped for 322 yards and scored five rushing touchdowns. Dravon Henry had three of them.

Henry ran for 92 yards in last year’s championship, when Aliquippa capped an 11-play, 96-yard drive with the winning touchdown in the final minute of the game.
