Highlands softball team flips the script

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

At first Highlands was just trying to win a section game. Now all of a sudden the playoffs are becoming a possibility.

An 0-5 section start has given way to a three-game winning streak. After being swept by all its section rivals in the first go through of section play, it is the Golden Rams doing the sweeping now.

It all started for Highlands with a 5-2 win over Kittanning. The Golden Rams then pulled off a huge upset winning 3-0 at Valley. Highlands had lost 10-0 to Valley in the first meeting.

The playoffs remain an option after an 8-1 win over Mars in which freshman pitcher Katie Grosholz pitched a complete game in which she struck out five and knocked in three runs. Highlands closes out its section schedule with games at Knoch and Hampton. Highlands is in second to last place in the section but still alive. Mars (6-2) leads the section, ahead of Knoch (4-3), Valley (4-4) and Kittanning (3-3).
