Beat continues for Hampton boys lacrosse team
Hampton High jumped out on top early and never looked back in capturing a 16-7 victory over Greensburg Central Catholic in the WPIAL Division 2 boys lacrosse championship game on Friday at Chartiers Valley High School.
The game was a rematch of the 2011 WPIAL Division 2 championship game that the Talbots also won by a 14-11 margin.
The WPIAL has been conducting championships in lacrosse since 2009, and Hampton has won three titles. Hampton defeated Greensburg Central in 2009, 13-9. The only blemish on what has been an outstanding run for the Talbots was a 14-10 loss to Butler in the 2010 championship game.
The Talbots' Dylan Szramowski put his stamp on the game, scoring three of his team-leading six goals in the first quarter. The Talbots began the game with a 7-0 run in the first and second quarters and closed the game with an 8-0 run to put the game out of reach.
Another junior, Marquette recruit Andy DeMichiei added three goals and five assists for the Talbots, who finished the year at 14-7 and were the No. 10 team in Western Pennsylvania, according to Laxpower.com. A closer look at the rankings reveals that the Talbots were the top team among Division 2 boys teams.
