Greensburg Salem softball team riding Oberdorf's arm into PIAA playoffs

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

People around the WPIAL and now around the state are starting to take notice of the right arm of Greensburg Salem junior pitcher Jayne Oberdorf.

The Golden Lions, owners of one of the most prolific offenses during the regular season, have all of a sudden ridden the arm of Oberdorf to the WPIAL semifinals and the PIAA playoffs.

Oberdorf shutout Knoch in the first round and held Mars to two runs in the WPIAL quarterfinals. She may have been most dominant in a 2-1 loss to Elizabeth Forward. She was perfect through six before allowing two walks and a two-run single, the only hit she allowed all game. Oberdorf was sensational in a survival game against Belle Vernon. She struck out 11 in the WPIAL consolation game and went the distance to earn her tenth shutout of the season and extend the season with a 1-0 win over the Leopards.

Greensburg Salem is a major threat in the PIAA playoffs. It will play City League representative Carrick on Monday at 3:30 p.m. on McGibbney Field.
