Greensburg Salem softball team could be legitimate PIAA threat
Of all the hard-luck losers in the WPIAL softball playoffs, Greensburg Salem has to feeling the worst right now.
Senior pitcher Jayne Oberdorf fired a one-hitter in the WPIAL semifinals but that one hit happened to come after her only two walks of the game and the No. 4 Golden Lions watched as Elizabeth Forward pulled off a 2-1 upset.
Greensburg Salem (15-3) now heads to the WPIAL Class AAA consolation game against Belle Vernon with a chance to extend its season with a PIAA postseason berth. And the team would not just be backpedaling in the PIAA playoffs, Greensburg Salem had one of the most prolific offensive regular seasons in recent WPIAL history and Oberdorf is considered by many as the top WPIAL pitcher this season.
