Greensburg Salem’s junior pitcher Jayne Oberdorf was a major factor in her team’s 1-0 first-round win over Knoch. The Golden Lions powerful bats made it so perfection was not needed from Oberdorf during the regular season, but when those bats went quiet it was the junior pitcher who stepped up with a masterpiece. Oberdorf struck out nine, walked four and allowed only one hit.
“Greensburg Salem has the best pitcher in Class AA,” Belle Vernon coach Tom Rodriguez said before the playoffs.
Oberdorf certainly looked the part in the shutout win. It was her ninth shutout of the season.
