Questions persist for Greensburg Salem softball team
Greensburg Salem dominated most of the regular season, finishing with a 13-2 record and activating the ten-run mercy rule in most of its games.
The Golden Lions were one of the hottest hitting teams in the WPIAL and arguably had a lineup with the most power. But playing in a weaker section, many questioned just how good Greensburg Salem was.
The WPIAL seeded the Section 4-AAA champs fourth and after their tighter than expected first-round win over Knoch, a 1-0 decision, many might still question how far this team can go. Junior pitcher Jayne Oberdorf shut out the Knights to earn the win. The team got all of its scoring when Alex Garsteck knocked in Kelly Hutchinson with a fourth-inning RBI single. Garsteck, a senior left fielder, went 3 for 3 at the plate.
Greensburg Salem moves on to the WPIAL quarterfinals where it will face Mars on Monday at 4 p.m. at Woodland Hills.
