Greensburg Salem softball team garnering attention

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

The numbers the Greensburg Salem offense has put up this season are starting to catch the attention of area coaches. Playing in Section 4-AAA, a weaker section in the WPIAL that features Indiana, Uniontown, Laurel Highlands, Derry Area and Yough, some are questioning just how good this Greensburg Salem team is.

One thing that is hard to deny is just how potent the offense is. The Golden Lions have scored ten or more runs in ten consecutive games. They are 13-2 overall and easily wrapped up the Section 4-AAA title with a perfect 10-0 record. But they lost out of section games to Mount Pleasant and Belle Vernon although Greensburg Salem avenged the Mount Pleasant loss and it owns wins over Latrobe and a season sweep of defending WPIAL Class AAA champion Yough.

“I don’t know a lot about Greensburg Salem but they look impressive,” Montour coach Bill Wills said.

Elizabeth Forward coach Harry Rutherford added, “Greensburg Salem has had an easy run through their section. They could be tough but I’m not sure how good they are. I have to wait to see to judge them. Greensburg Salem is going to have to prove it first.”

Rutherford expects his team to be seeded eighth, ninth or tenth and possibly see Greensburg Salem in the first or second round.
