Greensburg Salem boys tennis team to make second consecutive playoff appearance

Written by Chris Adamski on .

Parker Jorgensen doesn't have any sons. But he is surrounded by juniors.

Jorgensen, a senior, is the first singles player on the Greensburg Salem boys tennis team. The next five spots in the Golden Lions' lineup are all juniors: Tyler Brinton (second singles), Jake Bringe (third singles), Tyler Hood and Jordan Schall (first doubles) and Dillon Boggs (second doubles along with sophomore Anthony DeFazio).

"In all, there's 21 kids on the team, and they came out determined and everyone has stuck in it," Greensburg Salem coach Rich Lewis said. "I tell you what, there's so much potential in that team, it isn't funny. It's anybody's match next year (in terms of who holds down the seven lineup spots). Anyone who wants to challenge, we have players who can play with our starters right now. Next year is going to be an even better year with the young kids we have coming up... I have never really seen a bunch of kids so excited to play tennis."

After 20 consecutive non-winning seasons through 2010 according to Lewis, Greensburg Salem clinched its second straight winning campaign and second playoff berth in a row out of Section 1-AA.

Jorgensen was a WPIAL Class AA singles tournament qualifier, and he teamed with Brinton to advance to the section doubles tournament final last week. The duo will take part in the WPIAL Class AA doubles tournament today at North Allegheny.
