Gateway hockey team off to slow start

Written by Ryan Riordan on .

The Gateway hockey team won its section last season despite having a losing record (9-11-1).

But with a talented Greater Latrobe team having moved into the Gators’ section and Gateway off to a bad start, a repeat is going to be challenging.

Gateway is just 1-4 after five games and trails the Wildcats by six points already in the league standings.
The Gators will get a chance to cut into that lead Monday when they play Latrobe at 8:35 p.m. at Kirk S. Nevin Arena.

One of the problems has been stopping the other team from putting the puck on net. Gateway’s goaltender, Tyler Perhac, has a solid .870 save percentage, but his goals-against average is above five since the Gators are giving up more than 40 shots per game.

Offensively, Taylor Siwik has a team-best seven points and six goals.
