Post-Gazette writer Mike White reports that Gateway has decided to open its football head coaching position. Click here to read his story.
"The Donnie Militzer era with Gateway High School football lasted one season.
Militzer will not return as Gateway's coach next season. He said he was told by Gateway school officials Monday that his job would be opened and the school would look elsewhere for a coach. Militzer was told he could reapply, but he has decided against that.
"I was pretty much told it would be an uphill battle for me to be back," Militzer said.
Militzer took over for Terry Smith, who resigned as athletic director and coach in January to take an assistant coach's job at Temple University. Smith was 101-30 in 11 seasons and won seven conference titles. He lost in the WPIAL title game four times."
