Freeport hockey team off to fast start
There are only two teams in the PIHL Class A that have yet to lose a game this season.
One is defending state champion Quaker Valley.
The other is Freeport.
The Yellowjackets already have a win over Serra Catholic, a 12-win team last season, and tied perennial power Kittaning.
Cole Hepler, the son of Freeport’s coach, Dave Hepler, leads the team with eight points. Michael Frazetta has added six points, while Nicholas Rusak and Greg Newman each have five points.
Meanwhile, Dave Hepler has rotated his three goaltenders, with each getting one start so far. Matt Huston stopped 29-of-30 shots in the 1-1 tie against Kittanning; Dominic Digiacobbe had 21 saves in the team’s 5-2 win over Serra Catholic; and Katie Hill stopped 5-of-7 shots in a 13-2 win over Greensburg Central Catholic.
Next, Freeport will get to see how it stacks up against the best when it takes on the Quakers Monday night.
