Photo: Freeport girls discover track team championship 15 events into the meet

This photo was taken right after this Freeport athlete had called out to her teammates on the track and in the stands. “Hey, Freeport!” she said. “We won!”

Her announcement came 15 events into the WPIAL Team Championship meet. This meant that Mohawk, Riverside, and Mt. Pleasant were each more than 27 points behind Freeport. Freeport’s opponents would not have been able to catch up even if they swept their remaining three events.

It should be noted that the Freeport girls won the Class AA WPIAL team championship last year, also.

As for the individual competition, the Yellow Jackets are sending 22 total athletes (boys and girls) back to Baldwin tomorrow. These athletes are:
