Late-season surge powers Freeport baseball team

Despite closing out its regular-season schedule with a loss, the Freeport Area baseball team had been scoring a lot of runs en route to locking up a WPIAL playoff bid.

The Yellowjackets (11-3) finished second behind No. 4 Deer Lakes with a 9-3 mark in Section 3-AA and were riding a five-game winning streak before losing a 4-3 decision against the Lancers on May 6. Ryley Cowan drove in two runs against Deer Lakes.

Alumni Update: Ryan Siegel (Mercyhurst)

Mercyhurst sophomore outfielder Ryan Siegel, a Freeport graduate, was named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Second Team in baseball.

Siegel followed up his PSAC Freshman of the Year campaign last season with a spot on the Second Team. He missed a dozen games due to injury, but still managed to hit .289 (fifth on the team) with one home run and 13 runs batted in.
