Alumni Update - Jenn Cantella (Westminster)
The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) announced that Westminster's Jenn Cantella, a Freedom High School graduate, has been named the Female Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Scholar-Athletes of the Month for September.Cantella, a senior goalkeeper and team captain with the Titans’ women’s soccer program, ranks third in the conference in saves (61) and is among the league leaders in goals against average (1.37), save percentage (.782) and saves per game (5.08). She is also tied for fourth in the conference with a pair of shutouts.
Cantella ranks second on Westminster’s career saves list, eclipsing the 300-save mark earlier this season, and has earned varsity letters as a member of the women’s soccer team and women’s basketball team during her three-plus years in New Wilmington.
Off the field Cantella is a sociology/criminal justice major and holds a 3.476 grade-point average. She was a volunteer co-teacher last summer at the Women’s State Correctional Institute in Cambridge Springs, Pa. and also volunteers as a youth soccer coach in Lawrence County and youth basketball coach for the Freedom Area School District. Cantella is also actively involved with the Lawrence County Special Olympics and serves as a volunteer at the Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care Center.
Each month, SAAC members at PAC schools nominate student-athletes to highlight based on academic and athletic accomplishments. Honorees must be a varsity member in their respective sport(s) and in their junior or senior year. Scholar-Athletes of the Month must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and be actively involved on his or her campus community.
