Freedom track and field edges Beaver, 83-67 (boys) and 78-72 (girls)
For the girls’ meet, Freedom’s Crossland took the 100 and 200-meter races. Her times were 13.14 and 27.11 seconds, respectively. Beaver’s Neeley and Shay came back in the 400 and 800. They notched times of 1:02.6 and 2:25, respectively. Beaver’s Brittany Shay won the mile event as well, crossing the finish line at 5:50. Basically, the Bobcats used running strength to grab points.
Freedom Area took five of the field events. Moon threw the shot 32-8, and the discus went 96-7. Vargo won the high jump (4-8), and Wiadelyne took the long jump (14-5.5). Vargo also pole-vaulted 9-0 to win the event for Freedom.
Overall, the Beaver Area and Freedom girls’ teams were pretty evenly matched in the running events, with Beaver taking first in eight of the running events. However, the Bulldogs refused to be shut out. Ultimately, control in the field allowed Freedom Area to with this big Section 3-AA match against Beaver.
Beaver’s next meet is tomorrow against New Brighton.
Freedom competes next on Saturday, April 28 at the South Fayette invitational.
