Freedom track: Boys got to finals, but Adams got school record

Written by Cara De Carlo on .

Although both Freedom track teams competed on semifinal brackets last week, the boys were the team to advance. They won their semi bracket 102-47 over Fort Cherry, 92 1/3 -56 2/3 over Trinity Christian, and 86-64 over Freeport. The Bulldogs’ girls lost, 121-29 to Freeport.

Freedom Area head track coach Ed Shepherd was, nonetheless, pleased on all fronts.

“Dee Dee Adams broke the school record in the 800,” he said. Adams, a stellar track and cross country veteran for Freedom, cut the record time in the 800 from 2:19.8 to 2:19.1.

On the boys’ side, sophomore Brenton Harrison was a major contributor. Harrison high jumped 6-2, long jumped, and scored in the javelin event.

Freedom baseball team has improbable comeback

Written by Sports Town on .

Going into its game at Brentwood, Freedom had been shut out four times in eight games so when the Bulldogs were down 14-1 after four innings, there was no real reason for the Freedom team to be optimistic. But they could have been as the Bulldogs scored eight in the fifth to avert the 10-run rule being invoked and then scored 11 over the final two innings to win 20-19.
