Franklin Regional boys lacrosse team finishes .500
The 2012 season for the Franklin Regional boys lacrosse team was much like a Kennywood Park roller coaster --plenty of ups and downs.
When the season ended with an 11-5 loss to Mt. Lebanon in the WPIAL Division 1 boys lacrosse playoffs, it ended a season of streaks for the 9-9 Panthers.
Frankln Regional began the season with a six-game winning streak that included double-digit victories over Fox Chapel (18-4), Greensburg Central Catholic (14-4) and Shaler Area (17-6). It also included victories over No. 8 Hampton (9-6) and No. 6 North Allegheny (7-6).
But fortunes quickly changed as Franklin Regional lost seven games in a row, four of them by three goals or less.
A 15-4 loss at Sewickley Academy on May 4 ended the streak. And then, the Panthers got back above .500 with successive victories with a 9-4 victory over Bethel Park sandwiched between Michigan opponents University of Detroit Jesuit (10-1) and Birmingham Seaholm (15-6) to improve to 9-7.
But the season ended with successive losses to Cincinnati St. Xavier (18-7) and Mt. Lebanon to conclude the season.
