The one thing a coach hopes for is a quick start in a game, no matter how meaningful it is.
Franklin Regional coach Eric Barnabei had hoped for such a scenario when his team lined up to play Quaker Valley in the WPIAL Class 2A consolation game this past Thursday at Robert Morris.
But that dreamed was dashed as the Quakers -- still smarting over a 10-9 loss to Oakland Catholic in a WPIAL semifinal that ruined a perfect season -- scored six of the game's first seven goals and rolled to a 12-5 victory over the Panthers.
"[Playing from behind] is not our game," Barnabei said. "That took the wind out of our sails. We [scored] a couple of goals, and they did a good job answering those goals every time we scored. That kept the momentum going their way."
