Experienced Fox Chapel boys basketball team out to make a statement in Section 2-AAA

Written by Chris Adamski on .

Fox Chapel was a last-place boys basketball team last season, has finished with a losing record the past two years and hasn’t had a winning record in section play since 2006-07. But the Foxes are optimistic about the upcoming season that begins Friday. And with good reason.

Fox Chapel returns four starters and will have five seniors among the top eight of their rotation. That experience has the team believing it can turn the corner and cross over that fine line between winning and losing close games. Only three of the Foxes’ 15 losses last season were by more than 10 points; five came by two points or less, seven by four points or less and nine by six or less.

“We’re a senior-led team with an up-tempo style that will rely on unselfish play and team defense,” coach Zach Skrinjar said.

Senior guards Matt Roman and J.J. Krysinsky, senior forward Johnny Sheerer and sophomore gaurds Matt D’Amico and Brian Papich are penciled in as the Foxes’ starters, with senior forwards Micky Jacobs and Tom Haak and junior guard Nate Huwar the top options off the bench.
