Ellwood City earns No. 1 seed in baseball playoffs

Written by John D'Abruzzo on .

John D' Abruzzo has the details on Ellwood City's rise to the No.1-seed in the 2012 WPIAL playoffs:

"For the Ellwood City Lincoln High School baseball team, anything and everything that happened during the regular season is being erased from the team's memory.

"We're only as good as our next game," third-year Wolverines coach Jeff Fotia said. "Everything that has happened might be an indicator of how we can play, but it's not the answer.

"All that doesn't matter right now. What is ahead of us is what counts. What was in the past is the past. We can't live there. We have to look to the future."

Ranked No. 2 last week in Class AA by the Post-Gazette, Ellwood City completed its regular season with a five-game winning streak, including a key 13-3 victory against neighboring rival Riverside on May 7. The win presented the Wolverines with a 12-2 record in Section 5-AA and a share of the section crown."
