The experience might not have been what they had hoped for, but three girls from the eastern area of the WPIAL all gained valuable experience at the PIAA Girls Individual Golf Championships held this week at York's Heritage Hills Resort.
Gateway High sophomore Johnna Beehner had a rough tournament, shooting scores of 92 and 91 to register a 39-over-par total of 183. She was two strokes behind the 17th-place finisher and 35 strokes behind the winning total of 148 registered by Mount St. Joseph junior Isabella Dilisio.
Greensburg Central Catholic freshman Olivia Zambruno and Freeport sophomore Audrey Clawson fared better in the Class AA tournament.
Zambruno, the No. 10 qualifier from the Western Regional tournament, finished ninth with a 28-over-par total of 172, six strokes away from all-state honors. Clawson, who battled her way through the postseason with broken ring finger on her left hand, placed 11th with a 33-over-par total of 177.
