Deer Lakes hockey off to good start after not fielding team last year
The Deer Lakes hockey program didn’t field a varsity team last season. Instead it just had junior high and freshman teams.
But the Lancers are back in the varsity game this season and have started 1-0-1.
Deer Lakes opened the season with 10-1 win over Greensburg Central, and then tied South Fayette, 6-6, on Monday night.
Mitchell Rupprecht has been on a scoring tear so far, with five goals and three assists in two games. Five other Lancers have scored at least three points.
Lucas Gapsky has logged all 107 minutes in net for the Lancers, stopping 35-of-42 shots.
