Deer Lakes softball team outlasts Burrell for section crown
The perfect season came to an end for the Deer Lakes softball team after a tough 1-0 loss at Burrell. But with a win two days later over Shady Side Academy, the Lancers had one heck of a consolation prize, the first outright softball section title in program history.
Deer Lakes finished Section 3-AA play at 11-1 ahead of Freeport (10-2) and Burrell (8-4).
“We knew that Freeport and Burrell were going to be Freeport and Burrell,” Deer Lakes coach Craig Taliani said. “We knew those guys would be our biggest challenges this year, this is always a tough section.”
Deer Lakes is 14-1 overall heading into its regular-season finale today at 4 p.m. against McKeesport. Playoff pairings will be announced on Thursday.
