Deer Lakes softball team's run of perfection continues
Nothing runs like a deer and no other softball team in the WPIAL has run like Deer Lakes this season. The Lancers shot out of the gate with a perfect 8-0 record including a 5-0 mark in section 3-AA.
Deer Lakes has done it in close games, edging Leechburg and East Allegheny by one run each to open the season and they have done it in blowout fashion, activating mercy rules against Ford City, Jeannette and Apollo-Ridge.
Deer Lakes went 12-5 last season and 9-3 in the section. It won two WPIAL playoff games to reach the semifinals where it lost 6-2 to Greensburg Central Catholic.
Junior pitcher/outfielder Tiffany Edwards has been on fire as of late. In a 10-4 win at Freeport she belted two home runs. In an 8-4 win over Burrell she had a single and double and was the winning pitcher.
