Clairton football team's Boyd at top of his game
By his standards, Tyler Boyd didn’t have spectacular regular season, but Clairton’s senior running back might be the MVP of this WPIAL playoffs up to this point.
In Clairton’s 39-0 win against Brentwood in a Class A quarterfinal last Friday, Boyd accounted for all five of his team’s touchdowns. He scored on runs of 67, 48, 20 and 81 yards, and also hauled in an 89-yard touchdown from quarterback Armani Ford. Boyd finished with 288 yards on 16 carries.
Boyd’s effort followed a 246-yard, four-touchdown performance in a 58-6 blowout of Frazier in the opening round. Thus, in two playoff games, Boyd has rushed for 534 yards and scored nine touchdowns.
Boyd ran for 1,318 yards and scored 28 touchdowns in the regular season.
Up next for the four-time defending champion Bears (11-0) is a semifinal meeting with Neshannock (10-1) at Chartiers-Houston on Friday. Winners of 58 games in a row, the Bears would tie the state record of 59 consecutive wins with a victory.
