Boys basketball: South scouting report - Clairton's Bryon Clifford

Written by Brad Everett on .

Each week we ask an opposing coach to breakdown a South area player.

This week: Clairton’s Bryon Clifford

Clifford, like the rest of his teammates, doubles as a player on the school’s juggernaut football team. But while Clifford is excellent on the gridiron, he’s even better on the hardwood. At 5-foot-7, Clifford is typically one of the smallest guys on the floor, but his contributions are usually some of the biggest. Clifford is one of the top scorers for the Bears, who are 6-5 overall (5-1 in Class A Section 4) heading into tonight’s section clash against Leechburg. He scored a season-high 25 points against Serra Catholic. Clifford was named all-section as a junior.

An opposing coach says: “You concentrate on their big, strong players, and then he comes out of nowhere and scores. He is a great 3-point shooter and he’s good at slashing to the hoop. Being diminutive, he’s hard to stop. If was a year-round ballplayer, imagine how good he would be?”
