Chartiers Valley girls lacrosse team loses a heartbreaker

Written by Joe Koch on .

Julie Gould's Chartiers Valley High girls lacrosse team settled one rivalry for 2012 with a convincing 18-10 victory over Bethel Park in Tuesday's WPIAL Division 2 semifinals at North Hills High School's Martorelli Stadium.

Bethel Park had started the Colts' season on the wrong foot back in March with a 12-10 victory. Less than a month later on April 20, Chartiers Valley evened the score with a 12-5 victory and then took the season series with the eight-goal victory in the semifinal.

For the second year in a row, though, the season ended in heartbreak for the Colts.

A year ago, North Hills High earned its 20th consecutive victory en route to a perfect season with a 15-5 victory over the Colts. The two teams met again for the title on Thursday night, but this result had to be even more painful for the Colts.

Playing on its home turf, North Hills emerged with an  11-10 victory to finish 20-0 for the second year in a row and move up to No. 5 in Laxpower.com's Western Pennsylvania girls lacrosse rankings.

Brooke Czarnecki had a stellar game for the Colts with four goals. Hope Tornabene added three. Talia Cruz added two goals, while Taylor Ondik gave the Colts their last lead at 10-9 with a single tally.

Chartiers Valley, ranked No. 8 after the loss, fell to 18-2.
