Chartiers Valley girls' lacrosse team seeks return to title game

Written by Joe Koch on .

For the past two seasons, Chartiers Valley High's girls lacrosse team has competed for a WPIAL Division II championship, only to be thwarted in both the 2011 and 2012 title games by North Hills. In 2011, the Colts lost to the Indians, 15-5. Last year, the Colts became the 40th straight victim to the Indians in an 11-10 regulation loss.

It's 2013, and the Colts have yet again reached the semifinals following Thursday's 16-4 home-field victory over Hempfield. And, just like last year, the Colts will meet Blackhawk at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals with another trip to the championship game up for grabs. A year ago, the Colts captured a 10-3 victory over the Cougars in the quarterfinals.

The girls are undefeated (6-0), and the boys are 5-1 with their only loss to West Mifflin Area.

The top two teams in each Class AAA section qualify for the WPIAL team semifinals, which took place Wednesday, and both Char Valley boys and girls competed.

The boys went against Butler Area, West Allegheny and Mt. Lebanon, while the girls competed against Franklin Regional, Mt. Lebanon, West Allegheny and Thomas Jefferson. Both meets took place concurrently at Mt. Lebanon."
