Kayla Briggs has been to the WPIAL Class A softball championship before, twice actually, but never in this capacity. Briggs heads into Thursday’s WPIAL Class A final against Carmichaels as the starting position.
She was on the WPIAL runner-up Buccaneers team in 2010 as a first baseman. She was on the WPIAL champion Buccaneers team in 2011 as a rightfielder. Now as a junior, Briggs is the starting pitcher in the biggest game of the year.
“She is finally there as a pitcher,” Chartiers-Houston coach Tricia Alderson said. “It is exciting for her. She was a position player in the past, I am glad she has the opportunity to pitch in the finals.”
