Charleroi softball team working through growing pains
Two seniors bat first and second in the Charleroi lineup, after that it is all juniors, sophomores and freshman.
Fourth-year coach Beth Noble is starting one of the youngest lineups in Class AA. Her lone senior starters are center fielder Nicole Yakich and left fielder Erin Downes.
The Cougars have struggled through a 1-4 season so far but there have been bright spots. Charleroi blasted California 17-6 early this season and played Monessen tough before losing 12-9.
The other starters on the team are junior first baseman Haley Sapko, sophomores, shortstop Jordan Swarmer, catcher Carina Gottheld and third baseman Lynsey Wright and freshmen, pitcher Jenny Highman, right fielder Charlene Yakich and second baseman Bailey Worthing.
