Football: West Feature Athlete - Central Valley's Robert Foster
Name: Robert Foster
High School: Central Valley
Grade: 12
Sport: Football
Background info: Robert Foster had an outstanding career for Monaca and Central Valley High Schools and was certainly not a secret as one of the most widely recruited wide receivers in the country. Still, he saved his best for last – playing an amazing game in the WPIAL Class AAA semifinal against West Mifflin, which Central Valley lost in overtime, 36-25. On offense in that game, he finished with 160 yards rushing and 20 receiving, scoring on two runs. On defense, he made 14 tackles and three times ran down sprint champion James Wheeler from behind. On special teams, he returned a kickoff 68 yards for a score and was in punt formation twice – one he faked and ran 46 yards and the other time he kicked the ball 52 yards. He has not made a college decision yet but the choices are believed to be narrowed to Alabama and Pitt.
Quotes from Coach Mark Lyons: “The bottom line that sets Robert apart is his athleticism. He has that special gift of speed and he reaches full speed in his first step. He has always had that ability - you just can’t teach it - and he’s learned to use it better. His final game was unbelievable and he showed people what he can do. It was the best all-around game from an individual I’ve ever seen. He did it on offense, defense, and special teams. He literally put the team on his shoulders and almost willed us to a win.”
