Central Valley football team bounces back from scare

Written by Sports Town on .

In the first round of the WPIAL playoffs, Central Valley got past Belle Vernon by a single point on a last minute field goal but made it a point not to have a recurrence. The Warriors jumped ahead of Hopewell 35-6 by halftime and won 49-21 in the second round.

The win keeps alive Central Valley’s chances of reaching Heinz Field in every year of the school’s existence. The Warriors won the WPIAL in their first year of existence and, last year, lost in the WPIAL final to Montour.

Central Valley was formed by the merger of the Center and Monaca districts.

No team still alive in the WPIAL playoffs has more losses than Central Valley’s two but both losses were by a single point to teams that lost last week in the playoffs – Montour and Beaver Falls.

This week, the Warriors will play West Mifflin at North Allegheny. The Titans have just one loss – by 14 points to Thomas Jefferson in the regular season finale.
