Central Valley girls' soccer team finally shows its youth

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

Central Valley started seven freshmen this season. The Warriors did not show their age throughout an undefeated regular season where they won 14 games and shared the Section 3-AA title with Hopewell.

They did not show their age in back-to-back shutout wins in the WPIAL Class AA playoffs against Knoch and South Park.

But the inexperience finally reared its head at the worst possible time, in the final two games of their season.

Central Valley fell 2-1 to Moon in the semifinals and then lost 1-0 to Belle Vernon in the third-place game with a chance to qualify for the PIAA playoffs.

Central Valley allowed the only goal to Belle Vernon when Lauren Kovalchuk slipped a ball past goalie Robyn Hampe.

The loss hardly takes away from what Central Valley was able to do under coach Mark Perry. With so many freshmen, the Warriors figure to be a contender for years to come.
