Written by Chris Adamski on .

The Penguins' Marc-Andre Fleury earned the win and was the No. 1 star Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Consol Energy Center. Another local goalie had an equally good night at the rink.

Carrick's Josh Brown was honored as a PIHL Highmark High School Hockey Player of the Month for December. Brown was given a plaque commemorating the award and free tickets to the  game. He and three other players of the month were recognized on the ice and on the scoreboard during the second intermission

A senior, Brown was 3-1 record with a 2.25 goals-against average and .922 save percentage for Carrick in December. In his three victories, Brown stopped 89 of 91 shots (.978 save percentage) in the three consecutive victories, including a shut out of Ringgold Dec. 15. Brown also is an outstanding student and a Pittsburgh Region Jefferson Award honoree.

“It's a great honor for me coming from Carrick,” Brown said. “We don't get much recognition because we are from the open division. Being the first player from Carrick is a real honor. It leaves my mark in Carrick hockey history. “

Carrick (9-7) carries a four-game winning streak into a  game Friday night against Hollidaysburg (5-10-1).
