Canon-McMillan boys lacrosse team has chance to avenge lone loss

Written by Joe Koch on .

Many times, teams don't need to be told twice if there is an opportunity to avenge a painful loss.

Such a chance is staring the Canon-McMillan High boys lacrosse team as it heads into games this week against Independent Knoch (5-6) and Division 2, Section 1 opponents Greensburg Central Catholic (5-5) and Baldwin (4-10). Wednesday's game with Greensburg Central is a big one as the Centurions are 5-0 in section play.

On the face of it, Friday's game with Baldwin might not appear to be crucial as the Highlanders are in seventh place in the nine-team section, while Canon-McMillan is comfortably ahead of Seton-LaSalle. The Big Macs are 5-1, while the Rebels are 4-3.

But the Big Macs have played 13 games this season, and they have won 12 of them. The lone loss came on March 29 at Baldwin by an 11-9 score. Since that loss, Canon-McMillan has run off nine successive victories that included an 8-7 double-overtime victory over Quaker Valley and a 13-12 overtime triumph over archrival Trinity.

A playoff berth is likely in store if the Big Macs can defeat the Centurions. But it might be just as satisfying if they can gain that measure of revenge against the Highlanders.
