Girls’ soccer: Feature Athlete – Brashear’s Jordyn Cunningham

Written by Cara DeCarlo on .

Please note that although the Pittsburgh Public Schools play soccer in District VII (the WPIAL), Sports Town will still run Pittsburgh Public Schools’ soccer articles on the City League tab. This is so that all articles for a given team will display that team’s logo.

Name: Jordyn Cunningham
High School: Brashear
Grade: 12
Sport: Soccer
Position: Defensive back

Background Info: Cunningham is one of the Langley athletes displaced to Brashear as the result of Langley’s closing. But Cunningham’s sports history is so rich that it seems unlikely that her school’s name will change her desire to compete. While at Langley, Cunningham also played basketball and softball.

A defensive player commonly called the “stopper,” Cunningham was also a threat in  the Langley 2011 scoring department. Her ability to make offensive runs and offensive passes will make her an aid to 2012 Brashear’s offense, even as she secures the Bulls’ defense.

Quotes from former Langley varsity coach as well as Beechview soccer coach Nicole Bobitski: “She can make the most impact and difference in a game. I think she’s going to do that at Brashear on the WPIAL level. She is interested in playing in college -- she has the maturity and she’s a game changer. Every ball that she touches, she’s always making a difference. To me, Jordan would have to be a gift to Brashear. She’s what every coach wants, trains for, and hopes for.”
