Blackhawk baseball team's pitching mastery continues

Written by Sports Town on .

Blackhawk will enter the WPIAL Class AAA championship game Tuesday at 8 p.m. on quite a roll – the Cougars haven’t given up a run since May 3 (in an 8-2 win over Moon). Blackhawk goes for its second WPIAL title (the first was in 2004) on a seven-game winning streak and five of the seven have been by shutouts – the last four in a row.

Earlier this month, an opposing coach delayed turning in his starting lineup, waiting to see who would be the starting pitcher for Blackhawk. It didn’t matter that game as the Cougars really do have two number one starters. Lefty Brendan McKay has an ERA of 0.52 while righty Adam Rousseau checks in at 0.29. The team ERA is 1.55.

Rousseau pitched the first six in the playoff opening 1-0 win over Chartiers Valley and McKay, who encountered shoulder stiffness on that cold evening, pitched the seventh. McKay pitched a complete game shutout, also 1-0 over Thomas Jefferson, in the next round.

The week off since the last win should aid McKay’s shoulder and, probably more importantly, the ankle of catcher Matt Emge, who will play next year at Ohio State.
