McCowinNicSenior right-hander Nic McCowin, a Blackhawk High School graduate, combined with Ryan Oglesby on a five-hit shutout to lead Slippery Rock to a 4-0 victory over California (Pa.) in its regular-season season finale, helping the Rockets secure their seventh consecutive trip to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament.

SRU will be the PSAC-West's No. 4 seed after winning a 4-0 decision in Game 2 of Saturday's home doubleheader vs. California (Pa.)

McCowin pitched the first 6 1/3 of Saturday's second game to improve his season record to 3-2. He scattered five hits, struck out three batters and walked four hitters.

Oglesby entered the game with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the seventh inning and promptly induced the only hitter to face him to ground into a game-ending double play to pick up his second save of the season.
