Meskin leading Bishop Canevin hockey team in early going

Written by Ryan Riordan on .

Bishop Canevin junior netminder Nikita Meskin is picking up this season right where he left off in March.

Meskin has dominated early in the season, stopping 43-of-44 shots in two games to help the Crusaders to a 2-0 start with wins over 2011-12 Class AA playoff teams Pine-Richland and Plum.

The two wins pushed Canevin into the 500-win club, joining Kittanning and Upper St. Clair as the only Western Pennsylvania schools to win that many games.

Meskin was 13-3-1 in net last season for Canevin, who qualified for the Class AA playoffs but lost to Pine-Richland 5-1 in the first round.

Meskin stopped 27-of-28 shots in Canevin’s 2-1 victory over the Rams in the season opener on Oct. 29.
